Foodie Time!

Do you ever find yourself ravenous, and then die a little bit inside when you see the sad state of your kitchen? Yes, that is almost a daily occurrence for me. I am currently living at home, where the groceries bought consist of bread, meat, cheese, and canned green beans. It makes a foodie like me have to get extremely creative if I want something out of the (carnivorous) ordinary.

However, as I am feeling particularly slothful tonight, I'll just show you what I'm hoping will magically appear in the refrigerator.

Palak Paneer - my all time favorite Indian dish! It's especially good when the paneer is made really well.

Grilled Eggplant and Tomato Sandwich

Margherita Pizza (homemade, please!)

Fresh Blueberry Muffins (really, I could make these right now, but ugh, so much work...[not really, but still...lazy])

Eclectic food combination you say? Um, yes, and I would completely eat all of them together.

Angry Vintage

After countless setbacks in working on my shop, today was once again no different. I am unable to take any photos of all the clothes and shoes I have backed up, due to the light/camera oddly not want to work no matter what. All I can do is sit around and look at all these clothes, thinking about the loads of money I spent on them, and how I'm not getting any return because I CAN'T DO ANYTHING.

I am also, unfortunately, a frustrated eater. I don't eat when I'm sad, I don't eat when I'm super stressed or worried - I eat when I'm angry and frustrated. I tried to do this with grapes, but the grapes turned out to be sour, so I had leftover fried potatoes. Rabble.

So I am plopping my butt down in front of this computer and wasting the night away with browsing through etsy. I put the term "angry" in the vintage search, and here's what fun stuff I came up with!

1953 Kodak - Angry Bride and Bridesmaid

Angry Wife Towel

Angry Owl Wrap Skirt

Angry Moon Leather Postcard

Angry Anime Cop Doll

Yes, I realize this is a post mostly about me complaining, and I apologize. It's just very aggravating when you try so hard to do something right, and everything out of your control goes as wrong as it possibly could. The expression on that bride's face is comparable to mine!

We Had a Fair Time!

As I said a couple of days ago, Adam and I made plans to go to the L.A. County fair yesterday. It was great! It got off to a rocky start because the shoes I wore gave me IMMEDIATE blisters, even though I wore preventative band-aids. They were pretty miserable, and our first stop was the first aid building! Anyways, the blisters were fated to happen, because nothing could be done to stop them. I let my endorphins kick in and I trudged along through the pain!

As expected, the foods were both obscene yet tantalizing. Our first try was this, a hot dog inside of a zucchini, and then cooked corndog style. I don't like hot dogs, but really, this was a genius idea.

Then we meandered around inside to see the blue ribbon displays, because it was blisteringly hot (over 100!) We eventually made our way over to the ferris wheel, and after we bought our tickets, we got in for free! The people at the ferris wheel never took them, so yay, we got to ride another death trap!

Gratuitous smoochy photo on the ferris wheel :)

We chose our next ride to be those giant swings that swirl you around in circles. More of a fun ride than a crazy ride, which is more my scene. What was really cool about that one is that there was a professional amusement park photographer from Australia in the swing in front of us, and apparently he got some photos of us! He said he would email them to us for free, how nice!

After spinning in circles over and over, we decided that more food was the answer: chocolate and sprinkle covered banana it was! Really, it's one of my favorites. And hey, it's a banana, which means it's healthy...right?

Then: turkey leg for Adam, which I partook in as well.

Then much time was spent oohing and aahing over all the adorable animals! Adam had to drag me away kicking and screaming when I tried to take home a baby goat. I want one :(

Having a lovely conversation with my friend the alpaca

The three stooges. My favorite was on the left!
Inadvertently making the same face as my favorite goat! Priceless.

Shortly after this lovely photo, two goats jumped on me.

This on decided Adam's shorts were a tasty treat.

We ended the day with a deep fried Snickers, which was rich and altogether sinful. Adam quickly went into a sugar seizure.

All in all, it was a good day! I was wearing an entirely thrifted outfit, and I think the combination of hair and clothes was good for a day at the fair. Now, the hair is a new style for me; what do you think?

Fair Time!

I am very excited! Tomorrow, Adam and I will be heading up to Pomona to go to the L.A. Fair! I am a HUGE fan of fairs, and I can't put my finger on the exact reason why. Perhaps it's because it's a deeply rooted tradition for myself and my friends back in North Carolina to go to the NC State Fair in Raleigh. This is the first year that I'm missing it!

The state fair always brings back memories of crisp October weather, falling leaves, absurd deep fried foods that MUST be tried (deep fried pickles? Awful! Deep fried candy bars? YUM! Just be glad I didn't try the deep fried cheeseburger [it does exist.]) I loved waiting in line for an insane amount of time to ride the massive ferris wheel at night to look over the city. Something we never missed - hot cups of apple cider while watching a local bluegrass band. Nothing like warming your nose, belly, and hearts!

So, I'm sure the L.A. Fair will be a completely different entity entirely, but that doesn't daunt me. There's something about the mix of junk food, carnies, deadly rides, and the company of people you care about that make it an experience you'll never forget!

The ferris wheel at night, while waiting in line
Hot cider with my best friend!
Sprinkles, chocolate, and shameless amounts of sugar - we decided this is what our wedding would look like.
My two best friends, Paul and Casey
Mmm, nothing like deep friend candy bars!
Everyone's a fan of the deep fried tomatoes!

Midnight Shop Update!

It is almost 1 a.m. here on the west coast, and my insomnia is rearing it's ugly head. I remember, back in college, staying up until 12-1 a.m. was a normal activity, and it was quite odd to go to bed early. Now it's the other way around...

Anyways, here's what's new in the shop!

BabyHaHa

In my daily I-have-no-life-let-me-browse-etsy-for-hours routine, I stumbled across the most stunning vintage shoe shop!

Let it be known that I am a SHAMELESS shoe fiend. I have miraculously weaned myself down to approximately 40 pairs in preparation for moving across country. Rest assured that once I've moved and disposable income is in my vocabulary once again, that number will slowly begin to grow.

Anyways, BabyHaHa specializes in strictly vintage shoes - and brand new at that! Stunning examples of the fashion of the 60s are still sitting in their boxes, waiting to be showcased on a very chic vintage lover's foot.

Unfortunately, she doesn't have any in my size! The fact tugged at my heartstrings a bit, but my budget certainly breathed a sigh of relief...

60's Vintage White High Heels

60's White High Heeled Buckle Pumps

Vintage 60s Three Toned Slingbacks

60s Vintage Black High Heels

While I desperately want all of the shoes I've shown here, I think these last ones are my favorite! /drool

When someone finds the antidote for large feet (well, 8.5, but still too large for these!), drop me a line, because I'll certainly buy some!

Shop Update!

My life is relatively dull, so while I think of a titillating post to write, I shall entertain you with a shop update!
